Auto Center Has Five Tips for Safer Driving!
Winter is at the door! After summer’s hot temperatures, if you haven’t scheduled an inspection of your vehicle for the cooler temperatures ahead, it isn’t too late to do so. Whether you’re planning a trip up to the mountains for fun in the snow, or you just need a reliable vehicle for your commute to work or school, now is the time to call your auto center. Their auto service technicians can look for any hidden problems under the hood to ensure your vehicle is ready for the road.
Our auto center offers these five tips, regardless of the weather conditions you face, that will help ensure you are driving as safe as possible:
- Keep up with the recommended auto service schedule: This should include checking the level and condition of all fluids, brakes, transmission, steering, battery and alternator, lights (interior and exterior), and wiper blades. Worn-out parts should be replaced and fluid topped off as needed.
- Check the condition of tires: Check your tires for signs of excessive tread wear and that each tire has the correct air pressure. Rotate your tires rotated about every 5,000 to 6,000 miles, especially if you will be adding a lot of miles. It is relatively inexpensive—much cheaper than buying a whole new set of tires. Of course, if your old tires have worn down too thin, it may be time to buy new tires.
- Clean out your car: Clean the windows and lights to make sure you can see and be seen clearly. To increase fuel economy, lighten the weight by removing any unnecessary cargo from the trunk and/or backseat.
- Pack an emergency kit: Keep a roadside emergency kit in the trunk, including blankets, snacks, water, jack and spare tire, jumper cables, flares, and your cell phone charger.
- Inspect the radiator and hoses: Make sure the ratio of coolant and water is adequate for hot temperatures, and that the hoses have no cracks or bulges.
Of course, something unexpected could occur despite all of your preparations. But, you will have peace of mind as you head down the road, knowing that your auto shop has done everything needed to take care of your car.
