What To Do About Transmission Repair?
Many vehicle owners are guilty of neglecting their cars. Unless a dashboard warning light appears or the car is making noise, they blissfully continue to drive around assuming all is well. There are many vehicle maintenance items that demand attention and in most cases, the services are inexpensive and do not require much downtime. One of those services that should be at the top of the list is a transmission service, the equivalent of an oil change for an engine.
During a typical transmission service, the fluid, gaskets, and filters are replaced. Over a long period of time (or after a lot of mileage), filters can clog, gaskets can break down, and fluid can become degraded and even start to burn.
Failure to keep up with routine transmission service can result in hard shifting, jerking or banging into gear, or failing to shift at all. One day as you start to back out of a parking spot, you realize your car will not go into reverse, or it may stick in a lower gear and fail to shift into a higher gear out on the open road. Low fluid levels or fluid that has become degraded because it has not been flushed out and replenished is a top reason for some of the transmission problems mentioned.
Just as any car owner would not want to face replacing an engine, replacing a transmission can be just as expensive. A transmission repair can also become costly as many require the laborious task of removing the unit to gain access to complete the necessary repairs.
Even though transmission services will cost you more than an oil change, it is still relatively inexpensive when compared to replacing a failed transmission or paying for a transmission repair.
