Auto Shop Offers Advice for Safe Driving!
Most everyone is looking forward to summer’s warmer days! If you’re planning a summer road trip, you certainly want a safe and reliable vehicle. Even for those short commutes to work or school, ask your auto service technician about how to make sure your car is driving as safely as possible.
The first thing to do to get ready for a road trip is to schedule an auto service to see if there are any potential problems that could occur while driving. You definitely don’t want to break down on the road, calling a tow truck to auto shop in a strange town.
For safer summer driving, consider these tips provided by a trustworthy auto shop:
- Take care of all recommended preventative maintenance items: Check all the fluids (oil, brake, transmission, radiator, etc.), and replace or top-off as necessary. Check the brakes, battery and alternator, wiper blades (replace if older than six months), and all lights (both inside and out) to make sure everything is in tip-top condition.
- Check the condition of your tires, plus the spare: Inspect your tires for signs of abnormal tread wear, and make sure they have the proper inflation pressure. Have your tires rotated about 5,000 to 6,000 miles and alignment and balancing checked and adjusted, especially if you are taking a long road trip. Or, it might be safer to buy a new set of tires.
- Clean out your car: Use all-weather floor mats to keep your carpets clean. Also, keep your windows clean so there is nothing obstructing your view. Remove unnecessary weight from the trunk and backseat to increase fuel economy. However, keep the roadside emergency kit, including blankets, snacks, and water handy.
- Inspect the radiator: Make sure the ratio of coolant and water is adequate for hot temperatures, and that the hoses have no cracks or bulges.
Even with planning, the unexpected could still happen. But, you will gain peace of mind knowing that you have made your car as safe as possible to drive. Not only will you have a stress-free drive, but gas mileage and performance should increase!
